2013 Trestermonials - Vancouver Chiropractors

I'm big on health, mobility and cutting edge strategies to staying mentally sharp and always looking to improve my approaches.

Nearly two years ago I started seeing a chiropractor, unlike any chiro work I’d had before, I see mine for no particular or acute reason. Rather, I visit weekly for a ten to fifteen minute appointment and an adjustment by 'torque release technique' an altogether different approach that the common 'crunch' we associate with chiropractic, (it's gentle).

This kind of chiropractic is about maintenance, just as my diet and exercise is aimed at improving my quality of life, I understand that my spine and my nervous system play a critical roll in my well-being. Furthermore, I understand that sitting and hammering away on this computer is a far cry from the lifestyle of the robust and physical lives of our ancestors.

This week West 1st Chiropractic Wellness Centre is celebrating their ten year anniversary.

It's a small shop, on the back end run by Dr. Randall D Trester (he's a cross-fit / obstacle race fan and his lovely wife Shalene who's a real bright part of my day, takes care of the admin side of things.

They're cool, they even went to the Jay Z and J.T. concert. Oh and they recently were voted 2nd best chiro in the city by the Georgia Straight.

Anyways, if you have a benefit plan, and are not making use of it, Chiropractic care is badass. It's about maintenance and staving off the degenerative effects of modern life.

If you don't have a benefit plan - yes, it's an expense but just like the organic foods and supplements, it's one that I justify by feeling awesome most of the time.

Approximately 8 months ago, I began experiencing all sorts of sensations, discomfort, and pain throughout my body. Initially it began with pain in one of my breasts, then tingling and numbing sensations in my upper mid back and up thru my neck & face. Over the course of the first few months, my symptoms progressed to burning pain between my shoulder blades, as well as the top of my head, blurry vision, and a numb hand & foot. For someone who has never experienced any sort of of health issues, this was quite unnerving.

This resulted in many visits to the local walk in clinic, and to my medical doctor as well. I went for a CT scan and Mamo on my breast, had a full work up of my blood twice, and a chest x-ray to check for any type of infection. It was eventually determined that I most likely had suffered a case of Shingles without the tell true sign of the crazy rash. All of this of course brought on much anxiety and worry. I was given nerve pain medication and told to go for Massage Therapy to help with the tension and stress. The R.M.T I had for my massage, suggested that I maybe never had Shingles and that a Chiropractor might be the answer. My closest friend had mentioned numerous times that I should try Chiropractic, however I only thought you went there for major back/neck issues, not for the ever changing range of symptoms that I had!

I had never been to a Chiropractor before, so I asked my "pro - chiro" friend who lives in Victoria, if her guy had a recommendation for someone in Vancouver. This is how I came to meet Dr. Trester. The very first day, I walked in, still not sure if this was going to be able to help me or not. After my initial consultation and x-rays, Dr. T revealed that I was in Phase 2 spinal decay, and had rated me a 7 out of 10 on severity! WHAT? How could this happen without me knowing? He explained in detail how this happens over the course of many years, how our nervous system is connected to our vital organs, and that any form of a subluxation in our spine could cause all sorts of havoc in the body. He felt 99% sure that these subluxations were the cause of all my grief. He told me that I had to be patient, as he would not be able to fix me immediately, each adjustment would build upon the last. Still overwhelmed by what I had been told, I walked out into the waiting area to read the "Daily Inspiration" quote. The quote rang so true for me that day in another area of my life, that I had Shalene photocopy it for me! As I left, I had this feeling come over me that I was exactly where I was supposed to be, in Dr. T's office for more than one reason!

Over the course of the next 5 months, I started with 3 visits a week to get me on my way to a healthy spine. I must say that I still wasn't convinced entirely, but with Dr. T's constant reminder to be patient and to stick with it, I began to feel some relief. Some days are definitely harder than others to keep that positive mind set, but that's what you get when you walk into Dr. T's office, a booster shot of positive energy! Whether it's Shalene greeting you with a genuine "How are you today?" and efficiently taking care of all your appointments & admin, the healthy living messages thoughtfully posted in the treatment rooms, to your spinal alignments and words of encouragement from Dr. T.

I'm proud and grateful today, to say that I'm down to a once a week visit and continue to see progress in my overall well being. I would highly recommend Chiropractic treatment and Dr. Trester to any of my friends and family. My sincere thanks to Dr. Trester and Shalene!

I came to Dr. Trester’s office about 6 months ago at the recommendation of one of my colleagues.

At the beginning I was reluctant to make an appointment with Dr. T. thinking how on earth cracking a few bones would make a difference. I was cracking my own bones anyhow with a small relief(obviously not a good idea).

I had constant neck pain, and neck stiffness was my best friend, especially in the morning. My right hip hurt after hiking 10km or so. Oh yes! I love all sorts of sports, especially hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, running, tennis. It became harder and harder to run or hike for long distances to the point that last year I was in constant neck pain and my hip was bothering me quite often, even when walking, to the point where one of my legs went limp almost daily. I was thinking that all this pain will eventually go away if I exercise more and that it is bound to hurt here and there because of the type of work I do (sitting at a desk all day long) and the vigorous exercising after a day of sitting.

I’ve started yoga last year and it provided some relief to my neck and back but the next morning I was as stiff and in pain as ever.

Bottom line, I was hurting and my health was gradually deteriorating and I was steeling my self to take this for the rest of my life.

Thanks to Dr. T. and Shalene’s professionalism and kindness I’ve come to trust them enough to get the X-Rays of my back done. Once the results came in it all became clear. My neck was in phase 2 of spinal degeneration and my lower back in phase 1 towards 2, and one of my thoracic vertebrae was going for a walk. HUH! No wonder I was in pain. Dr. T. patiently explained that these spinal dislocations/subluxations will not go away with 2 cracks and he explained what treatment would be beneficial and why. I really liked Dr. T’s holistic approach to my condition and, (still reluctantly) I agreed to his proposed treatment. The rest is history.

I am now almost pain free, except when I push myself while running. My everyday performance has improved and running, hiking etc. are much easier. I can actually turn my neck without pain, and most days I do not feel the strain on my back from too much sitting. In the morning I can actually get out of bed without hurting. This is not short of a miracle. I am now a believer. Chiropractic definitely enhanced the quality of my life and Dr. T. was definitely the answer to my spinal and other related problems.

THANK YOU, Dr. Trester for all your work, patience, and guidance. THANK YOU, Shalene for making the waiting time easy and for always accommodating my busy schedule.

I have been going to see Dr. Trester for about 6 months now and have noticed a positive change in my posture and overall health. Dr. Trester never hesitates to take the time to explain things to me when I have questions or concerns. I was always hesitant to see a Chiropractor, but I am now comfortable and trusting in Dr. Trester's work. Shalene also makes the environment very fun, as she's lovely to talk to!

For years I have been suffering from severe low-back pain and bad posture. About five months ago I decided to give Chiropractic a chance. Dr. Trester is extremely knowledgeable and professional. He and his wife Shalene make a fantastic team and their clinic is indeed one of a kind. Over the last few months I learned that Chiropractic goes far beyond back pain. Dr. Trester will help you improve your overall wellness and set you to a long-term path of healthiness. I strongly recommend West 1st Chiropractic Wellness Center to anybody.

For years, I’ve suffered with my neck pains, TMJ and migraines.  Advil gel caps were just a part of my daily supplements.  Then I met Dr. Trester who introduced me and my two teenage sons to his chiropractic wellness program.  We've been in his care for over a year now - I can't even recall when was the last time I had to use my night guard and take an Advil.

My oldest son's posture is way better no longer slouching and holding his 6'2" height quite tall.  The other son's general sinus and congestion problems have also been subdued.  It is genuinely a joy to visit the office, especially for my one son - who hates any types of medical visits - actually makes no fuss and has the trust to allow Dr. Trester do the biweekly adjustments speak volumes!!

Also both Dr. Trester and his wife Shalene are so extremely professional and passionate in sharing their knowledge of general health & wellness and making us feel at ease and comfortable in their family friendly environment.  I feel so grateful for the excellent care and support that our family receives every time we visit.

Thank you Dr. Trester and Shalene! I would highly recommend others to share this experience.
