Helping You Live a Healthy Life!

LEVERAGE

lev•er•age – (def) strategic advantage, to improve or enhance, the power to act effectively. As in “relatively small groups can sometimes exert immense political leverage.” Sounds like a powerful concept. Could you imagine if you could use leverage to get even more out of the healthy things you already do? How would that impact your quality of life?

If you have more leverage while exercising or working out, what would that look like? It might be setting a personal best in your next 5K race, bench pressing 10 lbs more than you ever have before or skiing an entire day without tiring early. How about improving the benefit you receive from eating a healthy diet and taking supplements? Perhaps you lose that 5 lbs you have been trying so hard to lose or you have more energy because you’re getting the most out of the fuel you put into your body.

How do you get this strategic advantage on your health? How could you improve on a body that is already performing at a high level? This must be something new or unproven or illegal. No. Get adjusted. Free your spine from interfering with your nervous system. This increases your body’s ability to do everything that it does better.

Use regular chiropractic care to leverage your health. It doesn’t replace any of the helpful things you do already for your health. But it does expand your ability to experience higher levels of performance and well being. Put this powerful concept to work in your life and your loved ones. See what a difference it can make!

Chiropractic Facts and Figures

As evidence supporting the effectiveness of chiropractic continues to emerge, consumers are turning in record numbers to chiropractic care - a preventive, non-surgical, drug-free treatment option.

Just a few interesting facts on this increasingly popular form of health care:

Chiropractic is the largest, most regulated, and best recognized of the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) professions. (Meeker, Haldeman; 2002; Annals of Internal Medicine).

In 2002, approximately 7.4 percent of the population used chiropractic care – a higher percentage than yoga, massage, acupuncture or other diet-based therapies. (Tindle HA, Davis RB, Phillips RS, Eisenberg DM. Trends in use of complementary and alternative medicine by adults: 1997-2002. Altern Ther Health Med. 2005 Jan-Feb;11(1):42-9.)

Doctors of Chiropractic undergo at least four years of professional study at one of 16 chiropractic colleges accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE). In addition, Doctors of Chiropractic must pass national board examinations and become licensed prior to practicing.

In national surveys, patients favor chiropractic over medical care for back or neck pain. Patients routinely rate Doctors of Chiropractic highly in skill, manner, and explanation of treatment.

Chiropractic is the third largest doctoral-level health care profession after medicine and dentistry.

Back pain is the second leading cause of all physician visits. In fact, over 50% admit to having back pain each year.

QUESTION OF THE MONTH

Should I get my child's spine checked before they go back to school?

Most parents appreciate the importance of regular checkups for their child's teeth, eyes and ears but aren't sure when it comes to a spinal checkup. In fact, a spinal check up could be one of the most important checkups your child will ever have. Your child's spine is their lifeline. Encased within the spine is the spinal cord, containing billions of nerve fibers that send messages from the brain to every part of her body. If the spine is out of balance, it puts tension on their nervous system. This disrupts the messages between their mind and body, not allowing your child to be at their best physically, intellectually and emotionally. Get your child's spine checked by a chiropractor so they can be at their best as they start the school year.

HEALTH NEWS

Study: Medication errors harm 1.5 million a year

“Medication errors are among the most common medical errors, harming at least 1.5 million people every year.” This study was done on the U.S. health care system. “The problem is so serious that, on average, a hospital patient is subject to at least one medication error per day.” It also said that at least one quarter of them are preventable. The fact that this is acceptable floors me. It isn’t the first study of its kind. Reports came out over 10 years ago and yet the numbers continue to increase. If this many people got hurt in any other system, they would be near-riots in the street. Do you think that airlines or any other industry would still be in business if they were hurting this many people? These stats are not far off from where our health care system is. Please read the “Tips to Avoid Medication Problems” on the sidebar of the article. It may save you or a loved one from suffering.
